Application : Slitter Unwinder (more than 20 years old).
Material : News Print, Kraft Liner, Medium, Paper Board (33gsm ~ 600gsm)
Problem :
a) Parts – Existing Tension Brake (Fawick 125WC – Water Cooled Brake) is worn. This Tension Brake model is no longer in production as such no spares are available.
b) Heat Dissipation – Cooling of the Tension Brake is an issue because there is no nearby natural source of water to supply of cool water to the brake. Client would need to have Heat Exchanger.
c) Speed – Unable to utilise the full speed (500m/min) of the Unwinder – Current max speed was 220 m/min.
Solution:
To find a solution was challenging due to the wide range of Material to handle and also the limitation of no water cooling.
After calculating and considering the problems faced, the Re SpA Combiflex CX.500 was selected and recommended to the user.
Re SpA Combiflex CX.500 was selected as it could solve all the problems.
• Parts – Spares for the Combiflex CX is readily available.
• Heat Dissipation – With the larger CX.500 and its fan, it could dissipate the heat – no water is required.
• Tension Range – With the wide range of material to slit, CX.500, with it modular brake design could cater to a wide range of Tension Torque.
• Speed – the Unwinder could not operate more than 400 m/min as there were to much vibration (vibrations from the many worn structural parts on this old unwinder).
